Who Benefits From Respite/ Companionship Support?
The entire family - including the person receiving support - can benefit greatly from a change of pace. The primary caregiver can use a periodic break to spend take time for him/herself - as well as enjoy more time with other family members and friends.
For the person receiving support, getting time away from parents or other caregivers can feel like a vacation! In our experience, individuals with health needs and disabilities often clamor for more variety in relationships, places and experiences.
What's the Difference Between Respite and Companionship Support?
Temporary relief from the care of a person with special needs is known as Companionship when the care is provided in the home of the person receiving support and Respite when the care is provided in a setting outside the person's home. These services can be provided on a short or long-term basis.
How Respite/Companionship Support Works
Respite/Companionship Support provides temporary time off from caring for a person with special needs. We can provide you the respite you need – on a short or long-term basis, in or out of your home.

Initial Meeting: Together, we'll develop a plan and schedule for in-home or out-of home support. You let us know the services you're looking for and the extent to which you want to be involved in the hiring process.

Hiring: We may already have staff members who are suitable to your request, or we may need to recruit specifically for you. We always strive to make a match that makes you feel very comfortable. Whenever possible, we aim is to have the same staff person provide respite/companionship support each time you need it.

Billing: Services are billed bi-weekly on an hourly or overnight basis. We will direct you to public sources of funding if appropriate. Many individuals and families pay for the support themselves or use a combination of benefits, public, and private funds.
